The 26th Castlemartin annual RNLI range walk and run took place on Sunday last courtesy of the British Army. Pembroke Guild will always be extremely grateful for the use of this unique location and for the care and preparation taken by the officers and staff at Castlemartin in providing the safe routes across the range for walkers and athletes on the day.
A huge thank you to over 100 people who either walked or ran the range, bringing their families along too. People walked with their dogs, then entered their pets in our novelty dog show.
The very inviting BBQ, refreshments and event attractions were enjoyed throughout in spite of the worsening weather.
The Dead Men Walking Band from the Sad Cafe in Pembroke Dock donating their time were tremendous, playing non-stop. The Sad Cafe and bands at London Road, Pembroke Dock, and friends, raise funds daily for the RNLI and have done for years.
You, our sponsors and everyone giving their time on Sunday last, have all contributed in raising £2,000 on the day of the event. This amount, plus monies yet to come, will all go to the RNLI.
Pembroke Ladies Lifeboat Guild were also delighted that Mike Brotherton, retired naval chaplain and deputy launching authority of Angle Lifeboat Station, with great appreciation and ‘humour’ started the walkers and runners on the four or eight-mile course.
Sybilla Schleicher MRCVS, our vet, from All Pets Vetcare, Milford Haven, judged the novelty dog show again. The pet food prizes were sponsored by Burns Pet Nutrition, of Kidwelly.
The Guild welcomed a team from the Pembrokeshire Classic Car Club, Sam and Freddie, RNLI lifeguards, and Julian Hammond, Angle Lifeboat Station launching authority.
The Castlemartin Range Walk is annually sponsored by local businesses and industries.
Their sponsorship saves huge expense in organising this event. Therefore, we wish to thank Valero Pembroke Refinery, RWE Pembroke Power Station, Powells Holidays, Princes Gate Water, All Pets Vetcare and Burns Pet Nutrition, Kidwelly, Phil and Sue Davies, Sealand, Carew and Llanion Signs
Pembroke Guild have been raising funds for the RNLI in the Pembroke area since 1949, however, we could not carry this on without our members selfless work and the kind of local support mentioned here. On behalf of the RNLI, thank you all for supporting this very worthwhile fundraising event.
