A Pembroke gymnastics club is going from strength to strength, thanks to a donation from Valero Pembroke Refinery. The Elements Gymnastics Academy was set up by Jadie Edwards, who recently showed Valero's public affairs manager, Stephen Thornton, around the academy's facilities. This included a look at the academy's new gymnastics bars, paid for with Valero's donation.
Speaking following the visit, Jadie said: "The academy is here for young people from all across our communities, and we have been delighted with the response we have had in the last 12 months. Starting up a new club such as this for so many members is a huge undertaking, but with support from companies like Valero, we have been able to invest in the equipment and resources to enable our members to succeed in their competitions."
Academy gymnast Casey Edge, from Pembroke, said, "This is a great place for youngsters to have fun, and make friends, as well as learning fundamental skills on the wonderful equipment the academy has been able to buy thanks to generous funding. It's also helped me as a gymnast to further my training and reach my goals that my coach and I had set."
Stephen Thornton added: "It is wonderful to see how Valero's support is being used by this new and thriving club. Providing children and young people with these opportunities enables them develop important life skills, as well as take part in their communities."
Elements Gymnastics Academy was founded in November 2012, and has over 130 members taking part in competitions in Pembrokeshire and across Wales. Currently based at the Foundry House in Pembroke, Elements offers gymnastics training to young people, and is open to children from 18 months of age.
