Pembrokeshire’s public toilets are table-toppers once again.

For the second successive year, the county’s public loos finished first in the ‘Premier League’ of local authority run toilets retained ‘Champions League’ status.

The accolade was announced at the recent ‘Loo of The Year’ awards where they cleaned up in a number of categories.

A total of 13 toilets have been upgraded from silver to gold awards while the toilets on Tenby’s South Beach and the toilets that replaced the old block in the Regency Car Park in Saundersfoot

have been upgraded from to Platinum, the highest award on offer.

Overall, 58 toilets were rated as Gold with five achieving platinum status.

Danfo UK Limited - which cleans and maintains the toilets - were awarded best external contractor in Wales for the work which they undertake in Pembrokeshire.

It’s the second time in three years the company has picked up the award.

Each toilet was visited and inspected by a representative of the Loo of the Year organisation and judged with the outcome based on a grading system.

Pembrokeshire’s toilets scored 363 points against second placed Brighton and Hove City Council with 198.

Pembrokeshire County Council cabinet member for the environment and Welsh language, Clr. Cris Tomos said these awards should not be underestimated.

“This is a fabulous accolade for the county,” he said.

“Our public toilets reflect the area in which we live and I’m thrilled ours can rival and beat the best from across the UK.

“We want people to enjoy living in and visiting Pembrokeshire and we need to provide the public with clean and safe conveniences and through our working partnership with Danfo we are doing that and these awards prove it.”
