Tenby Town Council are looking for another new member following the resignation of former Mayor, Clr. Mrs. Maureen Ward.

Clr. Mrs. Ward, who has donned the scarlet robes of office four times, rejoined the council last April, but has cited her ‘advance in years’ and related health problems as a reason that has precluded her from ‘discharging the responsibilities of town councillor’ to the standard that she feels appropriate.

“I hope that my replacement as councillor is drawn from a younger element of society and is able to bring youth and enthusiasm to the role,” she wrote in her letter of resignation, which came before members of the town council at their meeting on Tuesday night.

Clr. Laurence Blackhall thanked Clr. Mrs, Ward for her time as a town councillor, most recently, and going back further.

“She has done a lot for the town over the years,” he told his colleagues.

The town clerk said that a casual vacancy for the South ward would now be declared.

The town council has recently welcomed new members Clr. Mrs. Skyrme-Blackhall and Clr. Mrs. Alex Rees to the table in recent months.
