Welsh Conservative Shadow Farming Minister Andrew RT Davies has called for more support for dairy farmers in Wales as the industry marks World Milk Day.
The global campaign is marked on June 1 each year, with countries across the world recognising the importance of milk consumption.
Mr Davies pointed to its health and nutritional benefits – particularly for small children.
He warned dairy farmers face huge challenges posed by falling milk prices – which have in some cases dropped below the cost of production.
He therefore called for support to maintain the industry’s viability.
Mr Davies said: “World Milk Day is a great opportunity to recognise the importance of the dairy industry in Wales.
“Milk consumption brings many health and nutritional benefits – but dairy farmers face huge challenges.
“With milk prices falling – it’s vital we provide the industry with the support it needs to remain viable.”
