The Green Parties of Ceredigion and Pembrokeshire have announced their list of candidates who will be running in next year’s Senedd Election for the new Ceredigion Penfro constituency. These Senedd Elections will be run on a new electoral system where voters can truly vote for a party they believe will help solve the problems faced by people in Wales.

The Green Party offers hope, not despair; long-term solutions, not short-term rewards.

With a Master’s Degree in Environmental Science Amy has spent the last decade passionately calling for environmental and social justice. At Aberystwyth University she ran an initiative called THINK about better joined up thinking around transport and health across Wales. As a regular bus and train user she soon became actively involved in the campaign for better public transport in Ceredigion.

Amy says, “Living in rural West Wales is really special, with so much nature, and strong communities doing great things to support each other whether that’s via community renewable energy or better access to healthy food to tackle food poverty. But Welsh Government could be doing so much more to support small businesses, farmers and families to thrive where they want to live.

“Poor rural public transport is an absolute bugbear of mine that I want to sort out. This is an important time in the region as industry, coastal villages and farmers face lots of changes. I am ready to listen to what residents want their futures to look like and how they think the Welsh Government could help them.”

Tomass Jereminovics is number two on the list. Tomass is an Aberystwyth University student, studying Environmental Science. He runs a successful Green society aiming at appealing to students. Tomass adds, “I have a record of standing up to councillors on a Residents’ Association Board. I also campaign hard for economic reform.”

Greens popularity on the rise!

The announcement comes following an overwhelming win for Zack Polanski as the new leader of the Green Party of England and Wales who won a recent landslide victory in the leadership election on what has been described as a ‘radical platform’.

Polanski’s victory has triggered a surge in new Green Party sign ups in recent weeks with Polanski’s outspoken politics & his stance on key issues like the genocide in Gaza, taking on the billionaires and tackling inequality. Polanski also has strong affiliations with the trade Union movement and promises a more ‘say it like it is’ style of politics to counter reform and the recent rise of the far right.

All to play for under new proportional voting system

A local Green party spokesperson said: “This surge in Green Party support could make it ‘all to play for’ in several key marginal seats in Cymru, Especially here in Ceredigion Penfro where Labour’s popularity has plummeted locally around several important key issues and the polls suggest that there is enormous hunger for a newer, more honest and bolder type of progressive politics.

Anthony Slaughter - Leader of Wales Green Party added: “We recently saw a taste of this where Greens won a council by-election in Labour’s former heartland of Grangetown.”

“According to a calculator built by academic experts, a 2 per cent swing to the Greens could see the party win three seats, and hold the balance of power.”

Slaughter continued: “A clear majority of Welsh voters don’t want Reform running Wales. The new proportional voting system means people can vote for what they believe in, not for the least worst option.”

“By giving Greens the casting vote in the Senedd, voters can rely on us to make fixing the cost of living our number one priority.”

Six Senedd Members for Ceredigion Penfro Constituency

Under the new voting system a total of six Senedd Members will be elected in each of the 16 new ‘super constituencies' in Wales, Ceredigion Penfro being comprised of a pairing of the two new parliamentary constituencies of ‘Ceredigion’ with ‘Mid and South Pembrokeshire’.

Each Party will select its own ‘Closed List’ of candidates so that on May 6, 2026 voters will get one vote for the party they believe in most with a far greater chance of that Party gaining seats with the fairer proportional system along with a rise in the total number of Senedd Members from 60 up to 92.

A further two Green Candidates have been announced as numbers three and four on the list for Ceredigion Penfro: Number three is James Purchase from Pembroke is the chair of Pembrokeshire Green Party and stood as the parliamentary candidate at the 2024 General Election, he’s a father to two and a grandad to four and a now retired builder.’

Finally, candidate number four is Morgan Phillips from New Quay. These candidates are exceptional individuals. They are ready to fight for seats in the Senedd and to serve Wales.

Greens say they are confident that they can gain a seat in the constituency.
