Councillors in Tenby have asked for a more information on a planning application put forward for a listed building on Crackwell Street regarding cliff safety for the premises which overlooks the harbour and North Beach area.
Both listed and full plans for alterations to the rear boundary to form new terrace area at Flat 1 Windsor House, at 4 Crackwell Street came before members of Tenby town council at their meeting on Tuesday night, with councillors discussing the proposals for recommendation to the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority.
Both Clr. Laurence Blackhall and Clr. Trevor Hallett felt that some structural report was needed in relation to the sustainability of the clifftop in that area, thoughts echoed by Tenby Civic Society who also expressed their concerns in correspondence that came before the town council.
“On balance the projection would be out of character with the rest of the other rear patios in this prominent location,” stated Civic Society’s planning sub-committee chair Harry Gardiner.
“There are questions whether an engineer’s report is needed regarding the construction method, and the structural load on the cliff and the building foundations, bearing in mind the Ritec fault branch here and a rear garden cliff fall last year at the other end of Crackwell Street,” he added.

Clr. Blackhall said that the Civic Society’s comments were helpful and councillors agreed to ask PCNPA for more information.
