THE Mayor of Tenby, Councillor Dai Morgan, hosted a celebration reception to recognise and thank those who took part in the Mayor’s Challenge at last year’s Long Course Weekend.

Co-hosting the celebration on Tuesday, February 17 were Matthew Evans and Scott Powell of The Long Course Weekend.

During the evening, commemorative medals were presented to participants who successfully completed the challenge by running either 5k or 10k in support of their chosen charities.

The Mayor was pleased to welcome runners who raised funds for a number of organisations, including Sandy Bear Children’s Bereavement Charity, The VC Gallery, Wales Air Ambulance Charity, Ysgol Greenhill School, Tenby, St David’s Hospice, and the Mayor’s Charities for the year: Tenby Sea Cadets and The Old Chapel. Through their collective efforts, an impressive total of almost £2,500 was raised for these very worthy causes.

The Mayor said: “This has been a truly outstanding combined community effort. My sincere thanks go to Matthew and Scott for the opportunity to work in partnership with Long Course Wales and for their continued generosity.

He continued: “I would also like to commend all of the runners for the commitment they have shown in raising such significant funds for their respective charities. It has been a real pleasure to work with the organisations and charities involved, and I offer them my special thanks for the invaluable work they do for our community.”

The Mayor is delighted to confirm that places have already been generously donated by LCW for this year’s Mayor’s Challenge. This developing partnership promises to create further positive opportunities for the community, and anyone interested in taking part is warmly encouraged to make contact at [email protected] .

Tenby Town Council extends its sincere thanks to everyone involved for making the evening such a memorable occasion and for their continued support of community initiatives.

Thinking back to last year’s Long Course, Sandy Bear Children’s Bereavement Charity paid tribute to the “incredible ongoing support” from Cllr Morgan and Tenby Town Council for local charities.

“We were lucky enough to have a few runners gifted places through the Mayoral Challenge,” they recalled.

“It was, as always, an incredible day. World class sport, an amazing atmosphere, and the sort of event that reminds you just how special our county really is. Having something of this scale and quality on our doorstep is pretty special, and it does so much for Pembrokeshire in so many ways.

They described the small gathering of Tenby’s chosen charities and Mayoral Challenge runners, hosted by Dai Morgan, as “another brilliant example of community coming together, saying thank you, and making things better for everyone. It was a genuinely lovely evening.”

Congratulating and thanking Matthew Evans and his team for organising “yet another stunning event,” the children’s charity continued: “Long Course Weekend continues to be a huge asset to Pembrokeshire, supporting our local economy, our communities, and charities like Sandy Bear.”

“Diolch to everyone involved – we’re very grateful,” they added.
