Skateboarding enthusiasts have approached Tenby Town Council to see if an extension can be made to the town’s facility for youngsters.

The skateboard park sits alongside Tenby’s Jubilee Play Area, overlooking the South Beach.

The town clerk, Andrew Davies, told members of the town council at their meeting on Tuesday night, that he had received several emails from youngsters who used the skate park, asking whether it could possibly be extended, as they felt it wasn’t big enough.

“It would be good to form a ‘skateboard park committee’ to look into raising funds to achieve this,” said Clr. Mrs. Christine Brown.

“We still have the ‘Friends of the Jubilee Park’ which raises funds for repairs and maintenance, through selling books etc, but that needs more contributions too.

“A ‘skate park’ committee should be set up and we can then have a proper meeting about this, and see if there is any enthusiasm to raise funding to extend it, and find out what the skateboarders want,” she added.

Clr. Mrs. Tish Rossiter commented that residents of Harries Street and Augustus Place would be delighted if this encouraged skateboarders away from making an ‘horrendous’ noise at the multi-storey car park.

Clr. Mrs. Caroline Thomas said that she was ‘very encouraged’ by this news, as it had been wonderful to see so many youngsters using the skate park facility over the holidays.

“I’d be delighted to help them,” she told her fellow councillors.
