Members of the ‘Save Brynhir Greenspace and Wildlife’ have organised another meeting for next week to discuss their concerns surrounding the sale of the land at Brynhir in Tenby.

Members of Tenby Town Council were told recently, that an outline planning application for a housing development plan on land at Brynhir is likely to be put forward in February, after it was announced at a recent cabinet meeting at County Hall that the housing scheme would be pushed forward by Pembrokeshire County Council after it ‘bought’ its own land using the housing revenue account (HRA).

A 15-acre site at Brynhir had been earmarked for 168 homes and marketed for sale, but after no acceptable proposals were brought forward, it was agreed by cabinet in July that the land ‘be appropriated for HRA purposes’, and the land was listed as being disposed of for £4million.

The ‘Save Brynhir Green Space and Wildlife’ group organised two meetings before the Christmas period, and have again arranged for this one to be held at the Giltar Hotel on Wednesday, January 16, at 7 pm, with a formal invitation coming before members of the town council at their meeting on Tuesday night.

“We believe as a group of over 1,000 members (on Facebook) we have a right to discuss this with the local town council, PCC and the National Parks, so we therefore hope that one of your representatives will be able to attend,” wrote the group’s chairman, Rebecca Nelson.

Clr. Paul Rapi said that he felt it was important for a councillor to attend who would convey the position of the town council, who voted to approve the development of the site.

“They speak about the green space and wildlife and there is not one person on this council who doesn’t respect that and want that to be part of the scheme, but it’s important for the group to understand that Tenby Town Council have long supported development on that site, which has sat in the Local Development Plan since 1989, with the aim to bring vast quantities of social housing to the area,” commented Clr. Mike Evans, who agreed to attend the meeting along with the town clerk, Andrew Davies.
