Pictured is actor and presenter Robson Green who joined Thorne Island’s new owner Mike Conner for planned filming at the Napoleonic fortress over the weekend.
Work started in July on the development of Thorne Island, which was built in the 1850s and is located on an island off the Angle Peninsular.
It has been uninhabited and unvisited for 17 years and in a state of disrepair, but its new owner who runs the technology company Appsbroker, has spoken about the challenges in its renovation.
“Thorne is an extraordinary Napoleonic Fort by a top five European surfing beach,” he recently said.
“Before it closed down Thorne was legendary for its parties and we hope that our staff and guests will enjoy Thorne and continue the tradition. It looked like a challenging project, that was another big part of the appeal.”
Mike is also hoping that Thorne Island with its off-grid Alcatraz appearance will be an appealing venue for AirBnB, conferences and festivals.
The first in a series of helicopter aided supply drops took place recently so suppliers could deliver their products to the island, and it was planned for Robson to join in with filming on a second drop on Saturday, but the shoot was called off due to the helicopter breaking down.
