Chairman Christine John welcomed members to the to the January meeting which was held at the Alma Inn.

The meetiing was also attended by PCSO Richard Mason, of the Pembroke and Pembroke Dock Neighbourhood Police Team.

Treasurer's report: Clr. Maureen Colgan said that the association's account still had a credit balance of £457.16 as reported in the previous month's minutes.

Winners of the Christmas decorative lights competition: The best decorated home was judged to be at 68 Stranraer Road and the winners were awarded a £50 voucher that can be redeemed at the High Street Post Office, while the prize for the best decorated window went to the house at the corner of Sycamore Street, and they were awarded a £50 voucher that can be redeemed in the Red Roses Inn, High Street.

Return of the vandals: PCSO Richard Mason reported that four cars parked in Hill Street, Pennar, were recently vandalised. Deep scratches were made in the paintwork of the car bodies; an act of vandalism often referred to as 'keying'.

Safe route scheme for children: Clr. Maureen Colgan said that the recently announced initiative 'Safe Routes in the Community' had now been renamed 'Safe Routes to School'.

The original idea was to encourage people to walk when making their shorter trips, and to provide children with safer walking routes to school.

Now, greater priority will be given to providing safer road crossing points and to making certain footpaths passable in all weather conditions for children walking to the Pennar Community School, St. Mary's Catholic School and Pembroke School. Plans for these improvements are to be submitted before the end of January so that contracts can be put out to tender.

Commencement of Pembroke Dock's bicentenary year: The Rev. Roger Hart conducted a service of celebration of the town's bicentenary year in the newly renovated Pennar Community Church on New Year's Day.

The service was well attended by a wide cross-section of the community and several of the Pembrokeshire and local dignitaries, including the Hon. Robin Lewis - Lord Lieutenant of Dyfed and Mrs. Robin Lewis, Clr. Arwyn Williams - chairman of Pembrokeshire County Council and Mrs. Arwyn Williams, Clr. Jane Phillips - the Mayor of Pembroke Dock and Clr. Keith Nicholas and Mrs. Karen Nicholas - the Mayor and Mayoress of Pembroke.

Earlier on New Year's Day, Pater Hall was the venue for a 'get-together brunch and sing-along' to get the bicentenary year off to a flying start.

The event was organised by the Pembroke Dock branch of the WI and was very well attended and enjoyed by the townspeople of Pembroke Dock.

Policing matters in the community: Clr. Maureen Colgan reminded members that the Police Forum is held in St. John's Community Hall on the first Wednesday of the month, and all residents of Pembroke and Pembroke Dock are most welcome to attend.
