Staff at the Port of Milford Haven have completed a year of fundraising activities for its Charitable Cause of the Year.

Each year employees vote for a charity to receive significant support over 12 months and in 2016 they selected Pembrokeshire Cancer Support. The charity was established in 1991 and provides support and information for those who have or have had cancer, together with their family and friends.

The charity chose to use the financial donation from the Port for relaxation classes and reflexology sessions, both of which can help alleviate stress for cancer sufferers.

In addition to this contribution, staff from across the organisation have been getting involved in a wide range of initiatives, including a bungee jump off the Cleddau Bridge, leg waxing and dressing up for Christmas Jumper Day. Earlier in the year, staff also volunteered to give Pembrokeshire Cancer Support’s charity shop a facelift and spent two days painting their premises in Pembroke Dock.

Lyn Neville, charity co-ordinator at Pembrokeshire Cancer Support, said: “The support we have received from the Port of Milford Haven and its employees has been overwhelming and amazing over the last 12 months. For a small charity like ours it has made a huge difference. Whoever gets their support next year will be lucky.”

HR Director at the Port, Vidette Swales, is proud of the workforce, adding: “Our staff really got behind our Charitable Cause of the Year and have been coming up with their own ideas for fundraising which has generated over £1,500 on top of the Port’s donation. The dedicated team at Pembrokeshire Cancer Support are doing a fantastic job and we wish them well for the future.”
