The Golf Club set their first set of questions since joining the Pembroke and Pembroke Dock Quiz League for this week's round and the first surprise result was at the Naval Club where the visiting First and Last would have been expected to win reflecting their league positions.
Not so, however, and the home side went off pretty smartish and though they were pegged back in round two, they maintained their lead which, by the end of round five, had been whittled down to just two points.
In a tight final round, they just managed to keep their noses in front to win by five points.
At the Charlton, the B side, who have struggled so far this year, faced the Alma A, who having taken the Station B's unbeaten crown, would have been favourites to take the points, but to cries of 'Where's Matty' and 'Thank God Rob is back', the home side ran out comfortable winners.
The next disaster was at the Station, with league leaders Station B taking on a charging Cosh Brewery side, who overwhelmed them with the night's highest score to inflict their second defeat of the season and keep their silverware ambitions on track, with the Station A as their visitors next week.
No such luck for the Alma B, who entertained the Station A, who took advantage of their B team's defeat to move level on points at the top of the table with a good win.
In the derby at St. Govan's Inn, the A team emerged winners in a tight game on a fun night by seven points, whilst in a swings and roundabouts quiz at the Oak, the visiting Charlton A left with a close two-point victory.
The night's results mean the Station B still head the table, but now just on quiz round points scored, from the Station A, both having 33 points; third are Cosh Brewery on 28, Charlton A move up to fourth on 24, while the Fist and Last drop to fifth with 22, Oak 21 and Naval Club 19.
Results for the night were: St. Govan's Inn A 69, St. Govan's Inn B 62; Charlton B 69, Alma A 51; Oak 71, Charlton A 73; Naval Club 71, First and Last 66; Alma B 58, Station A 72 and Station B 51, Cosh Brewery 79.
Would all teams please note that when setting questions, there must be only one answer to each question.
