At the monthly luncheon meeting of Pembroke and District Probus Club, Emyr Williams, a top officer with Pembrokeshire County Council, delivered a power point presentation on climate change and its expected effects on the Pembrokeshire coastline. He painted a fascinating yet doom laden picture.
The talk included graphs, pictures and statistics gathered over time which indicated a steep upward climb of CO2 emissions since around 1980.
The conclusion arrived at from all the information gathered suggested a possible increase in sea levels of between 20 inches and 80 inches within the next 100 years which would put several locations between Swansea and Fishguard in peril of severe flooding and ultimately permanent loss to the sea.
Looking on the bright side however, a coastline protection plan has been prepared by Pembrokeshire County Council and is ready for public consultation. It behoves us all to attend upon it, the hungry sea will not wait upon us.
The vote of thanks was given by Pembroke Probus member, Roy Jones, the former chief executive of South Pembrokeshire District Council.
