The following is a copy of letter sent to Pembrokeshire County Council
Sir,
I am writing to complain first of all about the poor patrolling of parking wardens in Pembroke Dock, especially Dimond Sstreet and Gordon Street. My shop is situated opposite the Job Centre in Gordon Street and I am continually asking people to move the vehicles so I can get access to my car park and forecourt areas. I have only seen a few people get booked for parking there over the last three years! Yet there are people parking there every day, so they can pop in to the Job Centre.
I have had to wait 15 minuites to be able to exit my property due to someone parking their car in front of my exit and popping up town, and have received abuse from some people when I point out to them that they are parking illegally, as they are blocking an exit/entrance, plus they are parking on double yellow lines and blocking a well-used pavement!
Secondly, my opinion of the proposed increase of parking charges. What are you thinking, on one hand you are asking us to take responsibility of the regeneration of our town centres (I am a member of the 'town regeneration team') and on the other hand you put the next nail in the coffin for our town.
I have no argument if you increase the long term parking charges - but the town centre shoppers car park at the end of Gordon Street should be made a short stay car park - it should be made into a one-hour free parking, and £1 per hour after to a maximum of three hours, and the other end of the car park (Asda end) should be kept as a long stay car park! This would make patrolling the car parks much easier (it would also help stop the Job Centre visitors parking illegally outside my shop and reduce the illegal parking on Dimond Street).
The car parking charges have already affected our town centre retailers. This increase is just going to make matters worse, and I am sure it will not help to regenerate a struggling Pembroke Dock town.
