Tenby’s town crier has a new bell to ring!

Jim Cornwell took over the role from John Thomas (affectionately known as Yobbler) who was town crier for Tenby Town Council for over 30 years.

Following Yobbler’s passing, his wife and former Mayor, Mrs. Caroline Thomas, gave to Tenby Museum items he used during his long and distinguished positon in that role.

“As the current town crier ,I felt something had to be done about the situation, so a bell which was in the council offices but in need of repair and restoration, gave me the idea to have it restored not only for use today, but for Tenby town criers in the future,” explained Jim.

“I hope to be able to use it soon in the honourable and ancient position of Tenby town crier.

“It certainly will be music to the ears of Clr. Paul Rapi, who made the comment following the election of the current Mayor that a new bell was needed!” he added.
