One of most prominent trees in Tenby that overlooks the North Beach will have to be removed due to ash dieback the town council have been informed this week.
The ash tree in Denzil Griffiths’ Gardens along the Norton - which is distinctive as its canopy had been trained over the years to create an umbrella effect to shelter the bench beneath it - was inspected by a Pembrokeshire County Council tree officer last week following concerns over its condition.
“Sadly, PCC’s area maintenance informed us that the inspection revealed that the tree has been badly affected by dieback,” explained Tenby Town Council clerk, Andrew Davies.
“It is already over two thirds dead with no chance of recovery.”
Mr. Davies said that the area maintenance team would be placing barriers around the area to prevent access while arrangements are made for the tree’s removal.
