The flags were flying well in the Amroth on Thursday and the official Platinum Jubilee beacon was in place on a trailer near the village flagpole.

It was hoped some of the local residents would enjoy the opportunity to meet up and that a few visitors in the village would come and join in to see the beacon. However, a HUGE crowd gathered, estimated to be 400-500 people, all joining in the fun to celebrate the Jubilee.

Three cheers were given for Her Majesty and the beacon was lit by Amroth resident and local RICS member Delyth Davies - “It is wonderful to see so many smiling faces, all enjoying the fun of catching up with old friends. This very special occasion has turned into a fantastic social evening and it is great to see so many people having photographs taken infront of the beacon – Just the boost we all needed after the two-year shadow of Covid “.

Amroth Community Council, along with the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors had been asked to co-ordinate the lighting of the beacon - part of the official anchor chain of 1500 beacons lighting up the nation and signaling the start of the Platinum Jubilee celebrations. Beacons have been lit at Jubilees dating all the way back to 1897 and the RICS has a longstanding involvement as at each Jubilee, being asked to organise the beacon chain throughout the UK.
