The library building in Neyland will no longer be needed by the county council once the service relocates to the town’s ‘community hub’.
Moving the library was considered as part of Pembrokeshire County Council’s ‘Access to Services Transformation Project’.
The new community hub will be built at the Neyland Athletic Club site but to fund the move the current building on St Clements Road will need to be sold.
Cabinet voted in favour of declaring the building surplus to requirements and suitable for sale on the open market, at its meeting on Monday, July 2.
Clr. Bob Kilmister, cabinet member for finance, said that the community hub plan was building “sustainable services in the future.”
He added that: “We’re investing in the community hub, including the library, but at the same time saving money for the council.”
Having a “bit of vision and willingness to invest” meant better outcomes for residents Clr. Kilmister told cabinet members.
