Tenby’s recently installed Mayor has thanked his fellow councillors for voting him which had already helped ‘broaden his horizons’ only a month into the role after attending a wealth of events throughout the town.

Speaking at Tuesday night’s meeting of the town council, Mayor, Clr. Tony Brown said that he had attended the ‘fantastic’ opening of Anna Warchus’ exhibition entitled ‘Transitions’ recently at Tenby Museum and Art Gallery, and admitted that it was the first time he’d been to the building in 42 years.

“It’s a fantastic exhibition, and I’d recommend people go and have a look at it. Tenby Museum is a fascinating place, and I’ll be going back there this week for the D-Day talk too,” he told his colleagues.

“I will be going over to Caldey Island soon to have lunch with the Abbott - I’ve not been there either for over 30 years, so I’d like to thank everyone for voting me in as Mayor, it is certainly broadening my horizons!” he laughed.

Clr. Brown said that last week he had also welcomed British adventurer Kiko Matthews to Tenby as part of her ‘Kik-Plastic’ coastal tour, where she joined volunteers on the North Beach to remove 16kg of waste from the beach.

“I apologised to her initially, as we stood on the top looking down at the beach it looked so clean - but as we got on there, gradually we got off an astronomical amount of waste, including the likes of BBQs buried in the sand.

“I’d like to do another beach clean in the middle of the summer, and then one at the end as it would be interesting to see the difference in waste that is left or washes up over that period,” he added.
