Much of the action of ‘A Final Regret’ takes place in the fictitious village of Madoc’s Haven, but the story includes various real locations such as - St David’s, Haverfordwest, Solva and Milford Haven.
When flighty young mother Rianna disappears, was it because she had an accident on her cliff-top run, or did someone want her dead?
There’s no shortage of suspects - her blackmail victims; the men she beguiled; the women who loved them; the father of Rianna’s baby, Meg.
Neighbourhood Sergeant Alys Carey is thrown together with Detective Inspector Matt Vincent when he returns to Pembrokeshire and takes on the case.
Can Alys and Matt unravel the complex web of relationships within the local community and ensure that justice prevails? Will Matt’s embittered detective sergeant, Beth Francis, derail the investigation? And what will become of little baby Meg?
With romance, humour, and no gratuitous violence, ‘A Final Regret’ will appeal to fans of LJ Ross and Peter Robinson, with author Jeff now planning a series of murder mystery novels set in Pembrokeshire.
“I love Pembrokeshire and its coastline, so similar in many ways to Devon, the county in which I was born. I met a Pembrokeshire girl when we both worked in London and we married in a rural church near St David’s,” he explained.
“My wife’s aunt and uncle ran a country house hotel in West Wales. They had the misfortune to lose their chef due to illness at the start of one summer holiday season.
“Back then I was a chemistry lecturer and my college effectively shut down for two months in July and August, so I stepped in to help out in the kitchen. For the next few summers my wife and I and our two young children slept in an old caravan and we divided our time between the hotel kitchen and the beaches.
“Since those days my career has spanned university teaching, writing educational software, running courses for hospital laboratory staff, technical editing and leading a global knowledge management team for a computer software company.
“Now I write crime and action adventure fiction. I’m working on the sequel to ’A Final Regret’, the first in a series of murder mystery novels set in Pembrokeshire.
“My wife and I return to the county every summer to revisit its beautiful coastline and to meet with my wife’s childhood friends and their families,” he added.
