Pembrokeshire people are being asked to ‘bee’ creative and join in with a special virtual procession on Saturday, June 20.
Over the last four years, National Theatre Wales’s TEAM has been embedded in the communities of Pembrokeshire.
As a result of this work and important relationship, NTW TEAM launched ‘Go Tell the Bees’ - a community co-created response based on the theme of climate change and the environment, an issue that the local communities of Pembrokeshire felt was close to their hearts.
This autumn National Theatre Wales TEAM had hoped to work alongside residents of Pembrokeshire to produce wonderful events on the county’s beautiful beaches, mountains, forests, castles and town, shaping and creating a live production – a festival style weekend celebration.
But with Covid-19 forcing NTW to adapt to the new lockdown situation, there is now a far more of a digital approach to the ongoing development of Go Tell The Bees.
The first step of this is a Virtual Procession taking place online on the Summer Solstice -Saturday, June 20.
NTW TEAM are asking families in Pembrokeshire to help prepare for the celebration by preparing sunflowers which will feature in the virtual procession.
NTW TEAM hopes to engage people from all over Wales to create their own Sunflowers, calling on individuals, families and schools to come together to celebrate nature in all its glory as we are all kept apart.
Naomi Chiffi, NTW TEAM Co-ordinator and co-creator of Go Tell the Bees said: “Lockdown has forced us all to slow down and whilst life has been very hard at times, it has been incredible to see the sense of community and collective creativity that has blossomed as a result of us having this to stop and to reflect.
“National Theatre Wales TEAM invites you to celebrate our connection to nature and to each other by creating a sunflower which you can wave with us during our very special digital procession on the evening of the Summer Solstice.
“There is still time to order a free art pack from us, which comes with a packet of sunflower seeds courtesy of our friends at We Grow Pembs.”
“The Go Tell The Bees Virtual Procession brings together the people of Pembrokeshire for music, dance, video and art work created with local artists, musicians, choirs, schools and community groups.
“Take some time out for a moment of (virtual) connection and come together with us to explore the origins of solstice celebrations and our relationship with the natural world we share,” she added.
