Many people who attended the original ‘My Square Mile’ event in Kilgetty were keen to be kept informed about the progress and developments that have taken place over the past few months.
The steering group has continued to meet throughout the year and many new initiatives have been developed. Several new clubs and community groups have been formed with a wide variety of interests being catered for.
The steering group promised to report back on what residents had said about the area and what they wanted to improve for future generations to thrive in Kilgetty and Begelly.
An open day is being held at the Kilgetty Community Centre on Saturday, October 19, between 10 am -and 4 pm, so that residents can drop in and discuss the priorities that emerged from the first event. The group would like to know if they have interpreted what people said accurately, where priorities lie and who needs to get involved. Until now many of the initiatives that have started have been self funded or supported by small grants from several sources. The group is keen to explore possibilities and want to apply for funds from the Rural Futures Fund within the National Lottery Community Fund to make things happen in the area. Everyone’s ideas, knowledge, skills and enthusiasm can be used to help with this ongoing project.
Following initial interest, the newly formed Begelly - Kilgetty Historical Society will create a further historical photographic show and other local organisations will be present to tell people more about their activities, when they meet etc. There will be refreshments available throughout the day so an open invitation is extended to all local residents to call in and have a chat about what’s important to make things happen in Kilgetty and Begelly
