Sir,

This letter is simply to record the appreciation of readers in far-flung places, such as here in Western Australia, to the generosity of Mr. Ken Edwards for sharing his collection of images of old Pembroke/Pembroke Dock. I would also like to acknowledge the enlightened, good judgement of the editorial staff to continue to publish these items.

I am in contact with others in various parts of the globe who, like me, were born in the '30s and '40s and whose only choice was to leave PD to pursue further education and employment. Each of us, to varying degrees, experiences sentimental memories.

Regrettably the economic situation of the time meant that many leaving the then Grammar School had little choice other than to travel further afield. But, even after 50-odd years away from that beautiful peninsular of Wales, most of us yearn for our roots. Nostalgia may not be synonymous with objectivity, but many of us exiles who reminisce, can avoid the criticism of being wistful or misty-eyed when we are aided by Ken Edwards and his amazing collection of pictures.

Whilst writing, I would also like to thank Martin Cavaney for his work. I am not aware that I know or have ever met either of these gentlemen, but that does not mean I cannot express my thanks to them both for making my life so much more enjoyable.

I look forward to the receipt of the Observer each and every week.

Greg Ralph,

Perth WA.
