Tragedy struck in Pembroke on New Year's Day.

At approximately 12 noon, a 52-year-old man got into difficulty after entering the water at the Mill Pond.

A member of the public, walking in the area at the time, went to his aid and tried to rescue him.

Paramedics conveyed the man to Withybush Hospital, but sadly he passed away.

Police say there are no suspicious circumstances and HM Coroner has been informed.
