Thursday, May 17, 8.45 am, is a date and time Lucy Rivers Bulkeley, of Bosherston, will never forget for it’s when she reached the summit of Mount Everest.

She was climbing in memory of her father, the late Lt. Col Johnny Bulkeley, of Castlemartin Ranges. When he died from cancer in 2007, Lucy was determined to raise funds for Macmillan Nurses, who had been such a help to him.

Lucy started off by running Ultra Marathons, 160 miles, self-supported. After becoming the first European woman to complete the Grand Slam of Racing the Planet’s 4 Deserts series (Gobi Desert – driest, Atacama - highest, Sahara - hottest, Antarctica - coldest) in one year. Lucy then decided the next endeavour would be the Seven Summits challenge! She has so far climbed, Aconcagua in South America, Mt Elbrus (and Mount Blanc) in Europe, Kilimanjaro in Africa, Kozciscu in Australia, Denali in North America and now Mount Everest in Asia!

All money that is raised for Macmillan is being channelled to help fund Macmillan nurses in South and West Wales.
