Michael Thomas (38) from Pembroke has been announced as the regional winner for Wales in NHBC's 32nd annual Pride in the Job Awards in the Small Builder category, for site managing the construction of Gibbas Way in the town.

Michael, of local company South Meadow Homes Ltd., was one of three site managers to be recognised as the region's winners at a prestigious dinner event held at the Cardiff City Hall last Friday.

The NHBC Pride in the Job Awards, are the most sought after accolades in the industry dedicated to house-building site management in the UK. They reward site managers for the unique contribution they make to the house building process, delivering high quality homes and directing projects from start to finish.

Michael won his regional award for overseeing the build of South Meadow Homes' Gibbas Way Development, which will consist of 200 bungalows, semi-detached and detached homes once completed.

Neil Jefferson, customer and business development director for NHBC, the UK's leading new-home warranty provider, congratulated Michael on his win: "Michael has delivered new homes of outstanding quality on this site and should be rightly proud of his achievement. This award marks him out as a top site manager for house building in the UK and I wish him the best of luck in the national final."

Along with the champions from eight other UK regions, Michael now progresses to Pride in the Job's Supreme Gala event, being held in London in January 2013 where four UK Supreme Winners will be announced.

Michael talked about his win: "What I enjoy most about my work is building homes that the team and I can be proud of, and which will stand the test of time. The award is genuine recognition for producing quality homes and raising standards in the house-building industry. I get the best out of people, foreseeing and resolving problems, and customer satisfaction is a priority."

Michael has enjoyed great success in Pride in the Job previously, being not only a multiple Regional champion but also runner-up to last year's Supreme Winner in his category. He hopes to go one better this year.

Dad-of-two Michael started working for family-run company South Meadow Homes 18 years ago in the school holidays, before then gaining an HND in building and joining the business full-time. He was subsequently promoted to site manager 12 years ago.
