Events are being held at Tenby, Pembroke Dock and Haverfordwest to answer questions people may have about proposed changes to some local healthcare services.
Hywel Dda University Health Board has launched a consultation on nine healthcare services aimed at addressing fragilities, improving standards, or reducing waiting times for people in need of diagnosis and treatment.
The services included are critical care, dermatology, emergency general surgery, endoscopy, ophthalmology, orthopaedics, radiology, stroke and urology.
Proposals could change the way these services are provided in hospitals and some community facilities across Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion and Pembrokeshire in the future.
The events are aimed at providing people with information about the consultation and options for change, and to provide an opportunity to speak to Health Board staff and ask any questions they may have.
Whether you are a patient, member of the community, staff member or someone interested in health and well-being, you can drop-in to an event at any time.
Public drop-in events are being held on June 27, 2-7pm at HaverHub, Haverfordwest, SA61 1BG; July 4, 2-7pm at Tenby Leisure Centre, Tenby, SA70 8DU; July 10, 3pm-6pm at Pater Hall, Pembroke Dock, SA72 6DD.
You can also register for an online event. Each online event will focus on three clinical service areas:
• Monday 16 June 2025, 6.30pm - 8.30pm – focusing on critical care, for seriously unwell patients, emergency general surgery, mostly treating abdominal emergencies, and stroke, a life-threatening condition when the blood supply to part of the brain is cut off
• Thursday 19 June 2025, 6.30pm - 8.30pm - focusing on urology, care for the kidney/bladder and male reproductive parts, endoscopy, internal body examinations, and radiology, imaging to diagnose/treat
• Tuesday 15 July 2025, 6.30pm - 8.30pm - focusing on orthopaedics, care for bones, joints and soft tissue, ophthalmology, care for eyes, and dermatology, involving skin, hair, nails
Lee Davies, Director of Strategy and Planning said: “No decisions have been made on the options presented, and there are currently no preferred solutions. What you think, your experiences of health and care, and your ideas about the future of these services are hugely important. We recognise the importance of making sure the decisions we take are shaped by the people we serve. At each event you will have the chance to speak with senior staff from Hywel Dda about the future of the clinical services in the consultation. So please come along to find out more.”
People can share their views by completing a questionnaire or attending public events, in-person, or online.
Information about the consultation, including event details, the questionnaire and documents in accessible formats and languages, is available on the Health Board’s dedicated consultation webpages: https://hduhb.nhs.wales/clinical-services-consultation
