Local health campaigners have welcomed the news that a new year-round Nurse Led Walk In Centre, will open at Tenby Cottage Hospital next month.
The service which will provide treatment for urgent minor illness and minor injuries will be open from 10 am to 5 pm for patients to attend, from Monday, July 10.
Speaking at Tuesday night’s meeting of Tenby Town Council, Clr. Mrs. Caroline Thomas, who is also secretary of the South East Pembrokeshire Community Health Network (SEPCHN) said that the organisation would be holding a meeting on July 25, where the new scheme would be discussed.
“Anyone who has any comments or feedback on the new walk-in service can pas them onto either myself or SEPCHN chairman Mansel Thomas and we will make sure they are discussed at our next meeting,” she said.
Clr. Laurence Blackhall also welcomed the new scheme, stating that it was ‘fabulous’ news that it would be up and running next month.
“I must congratulate all the hard work that SEPCHN have done, and as well as it being important that people use the service, they need to know exactly what services are available,” he said, stating that it was important that leaflets be dropped at homes and holiday sites in the locality to promote the service.
CLr. Mrs. Thomas said that SEPCHN would keep an eye on what advertising is in place.
Conditions that can be managed by an Emergency Nurse Practitioner at the Nurse Led Walk In Centre include: earache and throat infections; skin complaints, including rashes and sunburn; minor muscular-skeletal injuries and pain; soft tissue injuries; hay fever, insect bites and stings; minor injuries, cuts, wounds, minor burns; minor eye complaints and irritations requiring washouts and irrigation; and removal of foreign bodies.
