Saundersfoot’s county councillor has provided an update in regard to the roll out of plans for the Oxford/AstraZeneca vaccine programme for the village.

“Saundersfoot Medical Centre are keeping me in the loop with regard to the vaccine delivery and I can confirm that the logistical support plans are now complete for the use of The Regency Hall,” explained Clr. Phil Baker.

“Once again everyone who has been asked for support have come up trumps - The Regency Hall have made all their rooms and facilities available, Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority have provided exclusive car parking spaces for those receiving the vaccine.

“Saundersfoot Community Council have provided exclusive use of the small car-park and Saundersfoot Harbour Commission have also dedicated additional spaces on the harbour and delivered the gazebos for the individual pods in the hall,” he continued.

“A special thanks to Mr. Darren Thompstone of Trueform Ltd who along with Blaine Sawyer built an all ability ramp at the hall on Saturday.

“In addition I have been overwhelmed by the offer of volunteers to act as marshals and car parking attendants.

“I am positive that we will have news of the delivery of vaccine very soon and fully understand that residents are anxious and concerned, especially when seeing the progress elsewhere.

“Please be assured that Saundersfoot Medical Centre will repeat the massive success of the flu clinic in October as soon as they have been provided with the vaccine.

“We will soon see our residents being called to The Regency Hall to receive their immunisation in a safe and orderly manner

“The Medical Centre will contact you when your category is to be immunised.

“Keep safe we are nearly there!” he added.

Meanwhile, Hywel Dda University Health Board has given an update regarding the progress of the Covid-19 Mass Vaccination Programme across Pembrokeshire, Carmarthenshire and Ceredigion.

“Over the past seven days, the roll out of the biggest mass vaccination programme in our history made significant progress with the delivery of vaccines to GP practices across the three counties,” said a spokesperson for the Health Board.

“Since the start of the vaccination programme, 18,602 vaccines have been given.

“A total of 6,109 vaccinations were delivered between Monday 10 and Sunday 17 January (up from 4,676 delivered in the seven days previous).

“Last week, GP practices have been able to share vaccine supplies received to ensure care home residents were vaccinated as quickly as possible. Up to Sunday 17 January, 25.5 per cent of care home residents have received their first dose.

“We are pleased to be able to confirm that starting this week, all GP practices across the three counties will receive a supply of the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine and as part of our vaccination roll out programme, we will continue to work with GP practices and community pharmacies to ensure the vaccine is available for patients to access easily and equitably.

“An additional vaccination centre for care home workers, health service staff and social care staff opens today (Monday) in Haverfordwest and will continue for these staff groups at our centres in Cardigan and Carmarthen.

“For the public, additional mass vaccination centres will open in Aberystwyth, Haverfordwest and Llanelli in the coming weeks.

“Please be assured that vaccinations will continue at a pace through GP practices who are best placed to provide this service locally,” they added.
