The award comes from the Community Land Advisory Service Cymru (CLAS) sponsored by Welsh Government which acknowledges the work done by the team of volunteers from the Community Association.
The certificate is awarded by the CLAS for community management of a green space in Wales.
The gardens at Kilgetty are a safe, welcoming place that involves the community in its decision making and on going upkeep. It is working towards achieving a Green Flag community award.
Presentation of the award was due to be made at an award ceremony in Machynlleth but had to be postponed due to Covid restrictions.
However, the association has now received a certificate and plaque for the garden.
Commenting on the award local County Councillor David Pugh said: “I am delighted that the hard work done by the volunteers of the community association has been formally recognised.
“When we started there was just an open space of former common land which had a lot of spoil dumped on it. It has taken quite a while and a lot of work to create the community garden and adjoining children’s play area.
“The garden is a wonderful area which is enjoyed by many people and the play area is well used and appreciated by not only the residents but by many visitors as well.
“The volunteers do a fantastic job not only working in the gardens but also keeping the area clean from litter.”
The Begelly-Kilgetty Community Association is open to all residents of the area and not only looks after the gardens but also manages and maintains the community hall which has been improved immensely and is a wonderful meeting place for the many groups and organisations that use the hall.
If you are interested in helping your local community why not head along and get involved.
You don’t need to be a gardener as there are many other aspects to the association.
