Pembrokeshire’s largest Go-Kart Grand Prix started this week with all the funds raised going to Children in Need.
The Kilgetty Motor Factors-organised race nights, held at Haverfordwest’s West Wales Karting, sees 40 teams from the motor trade competing for the ultimate bragging rights!
The event, the 2015 Kilgetty Motor Factors Grand Prix, has a sponsor for each race night. Race night 1 - TRICO; Race night 2 - NGK; Race night 3 - KYB; Race night 4 - SHAFTEC; Race night 5 - TETROSYL; Race night 6 - A1 MOTOR SERVICES; Race night FINAL - APEC.
Race nights will take place at the karting track from 6.45 pm from November 3-12, with the winning team from each night fighting it out in a final on Friday, November 13.
There will be a special prize for the racer that raises the most in sponsorship, along with a raffle every single night with plenty of motoring goodies.
Kilgetty Motor Factors managing director Alan Holt said: “We started doing the go kart GP’s in 1996 with the Haverfordwest Lions.
“It was an idea of a Lions member who worked for us back then; it was very, very small at the time; initially it was just inter-branch and it just took off from there. Supporting Children in Need was down to me, two years ago during the weekend of Children in Need the go-kart GP was on.
“That year we really put a little more effort into it, it was a big success. This year, two years on, we’re back on to Children in Need and we hope to beat our best fundraising total of £5,500.
“The mechanics and garages enter as a team and each member will hopefully raise a minimum of £25 sponsorship (£100 per team).”
He said there had been great local support for the event.
“We’ve had big help from West Wales Karting in Haverfordwest; they are going to give us the final absolutely free,” said Alan.
He also praised Kilgetty Motor Factors area sales manager John Harries: “John puts a lot of effort in and if we can get something for the charity that is great.”
John Harries said: “We have previously got on TV during Children in Need, albeit it for 10 seconds or so, this will be the largest karting grand prix in Pembrokeshire.”
Last year’s winners were K. P. Thomas and Sons, of Templeton, and congratulations must go to them on an amazing final.
Can they retain their crown this year? Who knows! Competition is already very high.
Huge thanks must also go to all the competitors for raising so much money and giving up their spare time for such a worthy cause.
So please come along and show your support. With raffle prizes and first class racing, it promises to be a very entertaining Grand Prix.
Scale Everest with FBM Holidays and Tenby Climbing Wall
FBM Holidays and FBM Estates Tenby have teamed together with Overhang - Tenby Climbing Wall to raise money for Children in Need.
Each year, FBM do their bit for the charity and in previous years have completed various sporty challenges, such as cycling the distance of the Pembrokeshire Coast Path whilst in the office on an exercise bike and also completing the distance of the Ironman event, again within the office!
This year, they have teamed together to try and raise even more money.
FBM and Overhang will be climbing the height of Mount Everest (8,848m) on November 13, from 10 am - 8 pm, at the Tenby Climbing Wall on Castle Beach.
The army, climbing clubs and members of staff from FBM will be doing their bit to finish the 8,848m, but they will need all the help they can get!
So, please head down to the wall.
If climbing is not your thing, cakes most certainly will be. With cakes on sale at the climbing wall and FBM Holidays office, there’s nothing stopping you from heading down!
It costs just £3 to take part and all proceeds go to Children in Need.
