Members of the Inner Wheel Club of Pembroke as well as members of several other clubs in District 15, which covers a large area of Wales, sponsored Joan Cox in her aim to walk 89 laps of her garden before her 89th birthday.

Joan, a longstanding member, has held every executive office in the Pembroke Club as well serving as District 15 chairman.

“She has suffered prolonged spells of ill health so this was no easy stroll for her,” said Evelyn MacCallum of the Inner Wheel Club of Pembroke

“Each lap was 0.44 miles so four a day equalled 1.76 miles - the grand total being 76.68 miles, achieved in the 43 days leading up to her birthday on Friday.

“She has raised a considerable sum of money which will be shared between Pembrokeshire health charities. Very well done Joan, we are really proud of you.”
