This year is 93 years since the National Garden Scheme began, and since then it has donated over £56 million pounds to charities such as Macmillan Cancer Support, nursing charities and Marie Curie.
“We are delighted to at last be allowed to open for this year, and Llwyngarreg, Llanfallteg is opening every day from July 6,” said one of the hosts Liz O’Neill.
“We feel not enough people have even heard of us, so we’re keen to let everyone know what we do, which is to invite people in to enjoy our gardens on ‘open days’, or by arrangement.”
At weekends, those interested in attending can book a timed slot, found on the National Garden Scheme website at: ngs.org.uk
On weekdays leave a message on 01994 240717 to let the organisers know when you wish to come.
Many other garden owners are also opening, with details are on the website.
“We are not allowed to provide refreshments just now, but you may be able to bring a pick-nick to larger sites, including ours. Sorry, no toilet facilities,” continued Liz.
“So while helping to support our nurses, come and enjoy the beauty of a well-tended garden, maybe come away inspired to grow some of the gorgeous plants and stimulated by any good ideas you’ve picked up.”
Anyone with a garden that they enjoy, and would like others to share, can open for the National Garden Scheme.
The money received goes to several charities, often being the biggest single donor to them.
Of course the gardens must have sufficient interest for 40 minutes at least, or combine with another garden nearby.
