FBM Holidays got in the spirit of the National ‘Go Orange for a Work’ Day and brightened up a dreary February day with bright colours and a bake sale to raise funds for Muscular Dystrophy UK on February 1.
The event was organised by FBM Holidays’ New Business manager, Karen Smith, as a cause which is close to her, with family members affected by muscular dystrophy. The staff responded to Karen’s organisation by donning colourful clothing as well as baking or providing cakes for an office bake sale which then encouraged people to stop in and buy goodies whilst supporting a great cause.
Karen said of the event: ?“I would just like to say a big thank you to everyone for the great support given in regards this event in aid of Muscular Dystrophy.
“I was very impressed with the great effort everyone made to find something orange and for those who donated. It means a lot to me. We have raised an impressive £131.20!”
The event, which was staged on a national basis by Muscular Dystrophy UK, aiming to raise funds and awareness for the condition.
Around 70,000 poeple in the UK are affected by muscle-wasting related illnesses. Muscle-wasting conditions are still very rare, affecting just over one in every 1,000 people.
As a result, some health professionals may never come across anyone with a muscle-wasting condition and may not know much about them, so the ‘Go Orange’ Day is really a day for awareness as much as raising vital funds for further research and development of treatments.
The staff at FBM Holidays would therefore sincerely like to thank everyone who contributed to making this special day a fun experience and more importantly, to those who donated their time or gave money towards the event, as it really means a lot.
