This was the scene in Pembroke Dock earlier this afternoon as work progresses along Dimond Street.

Beyond the roadworks, the Dockside Gallery were launching their Valentine’s Exhibition - report to follow later.

As you can see from the short video clip, the whole section of the road from the Meyrick Street crossroads to the junction with Gordon Street has now been returned to tarmac following the removal of the cobbles.

While some may lament the disappearance of the character-adding cobbles, they had become loose, uneven and dangerous, and were not an ancient or original feature of the town. Town Council minutes from 2005 and 2009 show that the state of the cobbles has been an ongoing concern for a number of years.

The town's former Mayor, County Councillor Joshua Beynon said recently that he is “really pleased to have played a small part in getting this project over the line.”

“A big thank you to the work crew for moving as quickly as possible and making it look professional,” he added.

Pembroke Dock is still very much open for business. There is a free car park near the shopping centre at Western Way and pedestrian access has been maintained throughout the period of disruption.

If all continues to run to schedule, works should be completed by the end of January.
