SAUNDERSFOOT Rotary and friends were delighted to join Sam from Ecoast on Sunday, May 17 to help keep the seaside village’s beautiful beach looking its best.

A big thank you goes to Mike, Sharon, Colin, Rachel, Howard, Alex, Kathie, Phil and Smithy for giving up their time to help out.

The good news was that there was very little litter on the main beach, “which was great to see and a real credit to everyone who enjoys Saundersfoot”. However, an hour’s wombling there resulted in a whole red bag of small bits of plastic, small bits of fishing net and some treasures.

The bad news is that there were several bags of dog poo on the stretch of beach where the seasonal dog ban is in place. Ecoast’s message to the relevant dog owners is: “Thank you for bagging it, but maybe next time keep to the dog friendly sections and bin the bag.”

A further 3.25kg was collected from Monkstone to Back Beach, as the volunteers encountered some unseasonal hailstones.

The cleaning party were really appreciated all the positive comments and encouragement from beach users during the morning.

Refreshments were provided by Mel at the Sailing Club, who is thanked for this kindness.

Thanks also go to Keep Wales Tidy South West for the equipment. For anyone wishing to do their own litter pick, equipment is available to borrow 24/7 from outside Ecoast. Please log your statistics on the Keep Wales Tidy Ecount website.
