MARCH’S Tenby Jazz Lunch, at The Clarence House Hotel, featured the absorbing, committed jazz of The Coltrane Dedication, based on music from iconic saxophonist John Coltrane’s latter years.
A highlight Coltrane album from that era, A Love Supreme, was the source of three numbers the band played.
Led by Lyndon Owen on sax, the band included Dave Jones on piano; Will Cass, guitar; Bill Fletcher, bass and Ian Poole, drums. A surprise sixth member, Daniel Williams on sax, provided some superb counterplay to complement the deep jazz emotions.
In addition, the Clarence team provided a great Sunday lunch.
Upcoming Tenby Jazz Lunches feature the Messore Thorne Jones trio on April 19 and the Keith Little Swing Trio on May 17.
