The Big Draw October 2022

The 2022 Big Draw Festival theme, Come Back To Colour, is a love letter to each of us and the world around us, a rediscovery of the vitality, health, care and vibrancy in everyone’s lives after what has been a challenging last few years. The devastating effects of the pandemic on everyone across the world have underlined the need, more than ever before, to nurture and cherish the places where joy, colour and freedom thrive, and celebrate this. The colour in our lives and the world around us dazzles in its richness and diversity if we only choose to slow down and look. We might see people seeking their vitality, reconnecting with both their physical and mental ‘colours’, elements that make them who they are. We might observe the wonderful vibrancy in the colours across the seasons and our natural world around us, taking a moment to celebrate our environment and protect the ‘health’ of our ecosystem. The world has changed over the last two years and there is no going back to ‘normal’. Our theme is not about trying to recapture a time that has been lost – it is about capturing, celebrating and finding joy with all the beautiful and wondrous things that remain. Have a go at drawing the colours you see around you!

Eden Evans

This Saturday, October 15 from 6 to 8pm, Tenby Museum and Art Gallery is holding a private viewing of its latest exhibition, Eden Evans, ‘The Way I See It’. The exhibition will be at the museum until Saturday, November 19. The museum is open from Wednesday to Saturday 10am to 4pm at the moment.

World Food Day

On Sunday, October 16, it is World Food Day. This is run by the United Nations to get us to think about how important it is for everyone to have access to healthy food. At the moment, we are seeing access to food becoming difficult for lots of people. The community fridge is helping to reduce food waste by making it available for everyone and anyone to pick up, PATCH is helping to make sure no-one in Pembrokeshire is without food in a crisis, and lots of other groups are growing and sharing food. How lucky we are to have a choice of safe and healthy food to eat !

Films4Tenby presents ‘Knives Out’

On Tuesday, October 18, at 7pm ‘Knives Out’ will be shown at the De Valence. This is a murder mystery in the style of Agatha Christie, with a stellar cast, so it should be worth seeing. Everyone is welcome, entrance is £5 or £4 if you are a member. You can also book a two-course pre-screening meal at the Fuschia Caffe for £13; book it directly with them.

Wiggly Worms

After a heavy downpour, lots of worms seem to fling themselves on to the pavement. They seem to get disoriented when the earth fills up with water as they have to head quickly to the surface to avoid drowning! It makes them easy pickings for birds and animals, and they can also dry out if the sun comes out, so give them a hand and pop them back onto some earth or grass nearby. We need worms to churn up the soil and grow our food, so it is worth rescuing them when they are in distress!

Tenby Food Hub

If you would like a mixed bag of either vegetables, fruit or salad, each for £5, you can put your orders in at the Old Chapel up till Thursday, October 20. Put your cash and a form in one of the envelopes provided and post it in the box at the back of the Old Chapel in Lower Frog St, near the Community Fridge. Your order will be delivered to the Old Chapel by Fresha and Fruity of Milford the following Thursday, October 27 and will be ready to pick up after 1pm.

Eat Your Pumpkin

On Saturday, October 22, from 2.30 to 5.30pm there will be a pumpkin themed event at Augustus Place Community Hall. This will include crafts as well as a pumpkin cooking workshop where you can join in with cooking the pumpkin flesh and seeds in a variety of ways. Then there will be an opportunity to eat the food cooked! You can bring along your own pumpkin so you can take it home ready to carve, but some will be provided. Everyone is welcome. This event is free as it is sponsored by Hubbub, who are keen for more people to eat the inside of their pumpkins rather than just chucking it away ready to carve it.

Pamper Night

After the pumpkins, on Saturday, October 22, there will be a pamper evening at Augustus Place Community Hall. This will be an opportunity to try a hand or foot massage, an Indian head massage, a bit of meditation or relaxation, as well as a chance to make new friends and treat yourself. There will be a £5 suggested donation to cover costs, and you are welcome to bring along some refreshments and/or an activity to share.
