A group of pupils from Golden Grove School-Ysgol Gelli Aur have embarked on an exciting new project.

Working with staff at Glan Y Mor Farm, the home of Greenlinks CIC, the pupils will be rebuilding three go karts to a condition which will allow them to be driven. The work started with a full safety briefing in the workshop and then building a rolling chassis. All three karts were built to a ‘four wheels on’ stage. Pupils learned new skills and added to their vocabulary with the introduction of new technical terms.

There is a long history of go karting in Pembrokeshire and we have seen a number of people progress from the sport to other motor sports with great success. The work of the teams of mechanics is also important. Who knows? We might see a driver or engineer of the future from the group.

Headteacher Andrew Williams said: “This is an exciting opportunity for pupils to learn new skills. I look forward to seeing the completed karts in a few months time.”
