A JOHNSTON man was fined for driving a car with insufficient light coming through the front side windows.

Mr Karl Gould, of Brookside Avenue, Johnston was not present in court on June 19 when Haverfordwest magistrates heard that he had used a BMW on Steynton Road, Milford Haven, with front side windows that only allowed for 43 per cent transmission of light per window.

The 58-year-old was fined £120 plus a victim services surcharge of £48 and ordered to pay £620 in costs.

The offence, to ‘Use a Motor Vehicle on a Road When There Was Insufficient Transmission of Light Through the Vehicle Glass (Eg Tinted Windows)’ may be unfamiliar to readers. The law states that “the front windscreen must let at least 75% of light through and the front side windows must let at least 70% of light through.”
