County Hall in Haverfordwest will be lit up today to mark World Down Syndrome Day.
World Down Syndrome Day is a global awareness event and this year the theme is ‘We decide’ and people can get involved by wearing #LotsOfSocks
Odd pairs of socks are used as a symbol for the awareness day due to chromosomes being shaped like socks. People with Down’s syndrome are born with an extra chromosome 21.
County Hall will be lit in blue and yellow to mark the occasion after Lisa Jenkins from Pembroke Dock contacted Pembrokeshire County Council to request the support.
Lisa’s six year-old son Harry has Down’s syndrome.
Pembrokeshire County Council Leader, Cllr David Simpson said the Authority was pleased to be able to support World Down Syndrome Day.
“It is great to be able to highlight this cause and we hope the move will raise awareness of World Down Syndrome Day and its aims to advocate for the rights, inclusion and well-being of people with Down’s syndrome.”
