Four young pupils from Cosheston VC School recently stepped up to their own personal challenge of running 2.5 miles in aid of Patch and Tenovus Cancer Care.

Sally Lloyd, with help of her friends Katie, Isabelle and Millie, who are aged between 10 and 11, organised the challenge themselves after learning about both charities and how they benefit the community.

The group decided that they would like to show their support for such worthy causes and set about organising the sponsored run, raising £320 in total.

Sally commented: "I learned about Patch and how they help local families within the county of Pembrokeshire after my local chapel in Pembroke Ferry made a previous donation. I felt that it was such a worthy cause, I wanted my friends and I to show our own support."

Katie continued: "My nan is very involved with supporting Tenovus Cancer Care and after also learning how they treat and support our area we all decided that we would support this charity too."

The girls plotted out a designated route from Woodfield Grove, Cosheston to Upton Castle Gardens and back. Sally then used her project management skills by organising a date and time as well as making the sponsor forms, a to-do list as well as completion certificates as a memento for them all to keep.

Parents Michelle Simmons and Lisa Lloyd agreed to participate in the run in support of their daughters. Millie's mother Jane had also arranged celebratory chip butties for the finish line, which certainly assisted the group on a sunny, but rather chilly day.

Both charities recently met with the group after they had finished their day in school to thank them personally for their efforts.

Tracy Olin from Patch thanked the girls and added that four families of four would now benefit from the donation and would subsequently get a week's supply of food.

Katie's nan Angela also congratulated the girls for their effort and thanked them on behalf of the Pembroke branch of Tenovus.
