TANYARD Youth Project in Pembroke, which has recently launched a guitar library, offering free ‘rental’ to all members, has praised Main Street Music proprietor George Parfitt for his generosity and involvement.
“We’d like to give a MASSIVE shoutout to George at Main Street Music for making this new initiative happen!”
The project’s positive post on its Facebook page was in itself praised for being a ‘lovely read’.
“George has been collecting and fixing up second hand guitars and generously donating them to the Tanyard. We are now at a place where we have enough guitars to go around during sessions, and a number of extras to ‘rent’ out for free to those members want to keep practising at home.
“We always aim to make the arts as accessible to children and young people as possible and George as helped us expand beyond the limitations of the drop in,” the post continued.
“It’s times like this that highlight how important community involvement is to projects like ours. Without the support of locals we would not be able to offer the provisions and initiatives we do!
“George has not only been supporting the Tanyard, but has been actively involved in the local schools and community projects. He has an amazing attitude towards supporting people and organisations locally and it’s safe to say Pembroke is a better place with him in it!
“For such a young business owner, he is really setting the bar high and showing what real community support can do, so thanks again George, for everything you do!”
George expressed his own thanks to everyone who has donated a guitar for Pembroke Tanyard. “They’ve been passed on and will be put to good use,” he said.
A registered charity, Tanyard Youth Project is about ‘empowering young minds’. The project is dedicated to nurturing the potential of young people from Pembroke and the surrounding areas through mentorship, education, and community involvement.
The project provides safe, welcoming and non-judgemental drop-in sessions for 10-18-year-olds. These are on Tuesdays to Thursdays, 4.30-7.30pm.
The Tanyard offers access to a range of activities plus free hot meals and fruit, its staff work hard to help members build confidence and drive positive change in their lives.
Tanyard Youth Project is passionately committed to unlocking the potential within every young individual. Its free art, crafts, film, photography and music workshops aim to nurture skills and hobbies in young people that they might otherwise not have had the opportunity to try.
Simon Watts said: “Cultural and artistic development is necessary to live a full life but, unfortunately, access to the arts is increasingly challenging as a number of young people are simply not able to achieve this. The guitar library overcomes this problem by relying on resources, in this case guitars, that are already available in our community, and putting them where they are needed.”
