SUMMERHILL WI president Marlene welcomed everyone to the Harvest meeting especially speaker Ian Watling from Narberth Food Bank and his wife Ann, along with guests Lorna, Kath, Jill, Max, Sandra and Anne.
Apologies were noted with birthday greetings given to Sue Cale and guest Jill as well as congratulations to Dawn on the birth of her granddaughter. Members were sorry to hear that Pam was in hospital and get well wishes were sent her way.
Sadly, since the last meeting, Summerhill WI has lost member Jane Hall, founder, past member Val Lewis and Linnia’s mother-in-law Vera Dennis; everyone stood for a minute’s silence in remembrance.
A short meeting was held with members updated on events including the 2026 programme with the first six months already booked. Those ladies who had taken Rotary Club Shoeboxes were thanked for their prompt return.
Ian and Ann then gave an excellent talk on the running and referral system of the food bank as well as showing ladies the contents of a three-day emergency parcel. They discussed the wide range of people who require their services sometimes as a ‘stop gap’ and for others more long term.
Marilyn thanked Ian and Ann for a most informative talk before they joined members and guests for a very enjoyable Harvest Supper. Everyone enjoyed jacket potatoes with various fillings with salads and to follow a wonderful selection of desserts courtesy of Linnia and the committee members.
The raffle was drawn by Ian with the results as follows: Linda – wine, Jill – sweets, Linnia - wine, Lorna - 2026 WI diary.
The evening concluded with a very special thank you to all members and guests for their exceptionally generous donations to Narberth Food Bank.
The next meeting will be in Amroth Parish Hall, Summerhill on Monday October 13 at 7pm when Simon Hancock will present a talk titled “Local History in 40 Artefacts”. Hostesses are Kay, Marilyn and Sue Cale.
