A CARD from His Majesty the King is expected for Pentlepoir couple Michael and Pauline Bourne, who are celebrating their Diamond Wedding Anniversary this week.
Married on May 8, 1945, Mick and Pauline moved to Templebar Road 15 years ago. They maintain they’ve never had a serious argument in their 60 years of marriage.
“When we got married at 18, by sister said we were too young, it will never work,” said Mick, who was a Milkman based near Heathrow for 30 years, then worked at Terminal 5 at the airport for the 16 that followed. “It shocks you that all that time has gone, when you think about it.”
Mr Bourne’s claim to fame locally is the walking football team he started six or seven years ago with a friend. There was no walking football in this part of Wales until eight friends took bull by the horns and started the ball rolling at Tenby Leisure Centre.
“A sense of humour is the main thing; it keeps you going!… and being there for other” added Mrs Bourne, who worked at St Peter’s Hospital in Chertsey following a “good few years” of being at home for the children.
The couple have three children, 10 grandchildren and three great grandchildren. They plan to have celebrate with neighbours and friends at the Giltar Hotel, Tenby, on the day, and celebrate with family at the weekend.
