CAREW WI’s daredevil president has faced her greatest fear - of heights - for the Pituitary Foundation.
On April 24 of this year, President Edith from Carew WI completed her Charity Zip Wire Challenge for the charity.
The Pituitary Foundation is a small self funding charity close to her heart. It supports sufferers like Edith with rare and in some cases life-threatening Pituitary Gland illnesses.
As part of her 70th birthday celebrations, Edith decided to complete a Zip Wire Challenge as her contribution to the charity’s national fundraising campaign ‘Move your Way’ that took place during April.
She doesn’t do things by halves though! She chose the fastest seated Zip Wire in the world in order to conquer her fear of heights and raise as much as possible for the charity.
Ironically, Edith told her friends at the Pembrokeshire village’s Women’s Institute that the greatest challenge was climbing the 80 steps to the top of the tower whilst clothed in safety gear, helmet and carrying heavy equipment!
“Edith did it though - as we knew she would - and we at Carew WI are very proud of her achievement, overcoming her fears and highlighting this rare condition,” said the group’s press correspondent Ruth.
Edith’s wider family were waiting to greet her at the finish line much to her surprise and delight. Sponsored by her family, friends and WI members she raised the grand total of £1,121 which, added to the National total to date of over £20,000, goes a long way in helping to fund trusted information, specialist help, psychological support and vital services for all affected by Pituitary conditions across the UK.
