Pembrokeshire County Council has landscaped part of the area on either side of the walk, but most of it has had to be left to grass due to budget constraints.
Pembroke 21C's Pembroke Can Make a Difference (PCMAD) group felt that it would be nice to have some fruit trees there to not only make the area look more interesting and attractive, but also to improve biodiversity and to provide fruit for the community to pick and use in the future.
So in consultation with local councillors and officers at County Hall, they have made a start by planting a quince tree which was kindly donated by Clr. Daphne Bush, County Councillor for St. Mary South Ward.
Clr. Bush said: "This is a really lovely idea which I was delighted to support. Those who use Badgers' Walk can keep an eye on the trees and enjoy watching them grow as well as being able to use the fruit in the coming years."
The quince tree is just a start as PCMAD hope to be able to plant more fruit trees next year to improve the local environment and bring opportunities and benefits to local people.
