Following the terrific success of their Chrismas Sheep Hunt last year, the Vicar, congregations and small businesses in Pembroke Dock are saddling up for another hunt, this time hosting an 'escaped' herd of donkeys.
Various kinds will be displayed in shop windows far and wide across the town, with local school children invited to hunt for them. Forty donkeys will have escaped from donkey wrangler, Farmer Styles just before St. John's Church Christmas Bazaar; Farmer Styles will rush into the Bazaar to ask for help to get them back in time for Christmas.
So, from then until December 23, when children spot a donkey, they go into the business to find the donkey's name plaque. They write down the name of the donkey and the business on the special entry form.
The grand opening of the Bazaar is on Friday, November 28, in St John's Community Hall, at 3 pm, with Father Christmas visiting at 3.30 pm and the launch of the Donkey Hunt by a rather worried Farmer Styles at roughly 4 pm.
Entry forms will be available at the Bazaar and at both local community primary schools and will include full information about how the hunt works.
Rev. Nicky Skipworth, who with a team of others from the local church, has worked on developing the hunt this year, said: "Last year's Sheep Hunt was brilliant fun and did a lot of good because it helped increase visits to local small independent businesses.
"There was also a fantastic turnout for the hunt prize-giving, which took place during the Crib Service at St. John's Church at 3 pm, on Christmas Eve, and we hope the hunt and the service will be successful again.
"This year, we are responding to parents' feedback by reducing the donkey herd to 40; neither will any donkeys escape to any licensed premises.
"Entry forms will be available in some participating businesses as well. We hope it will be great fun for children and the whole family.
"Thank you ever so much to our Chamber of Trade for their support, local schools for naming the herd and, of course, our fabulous small independent businesses.
"For updates on the hunt, please visit 'The United Parish of Pembroke Dock' on Facebook.
"See you in church on Christmas Eve at 3 pm!" she added.
